Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep '07) was named the Northwest Conference's Student-Athlete of the week in men's golf on Monday after winning the Willamette Invitational on March 16.

Bonk finished the two-round event at 2-over 146 to win by one stroke. His play helped the Boxers tie for second in the team standings. Bonk started with a 2-over 74 and finished the tournament with an even-par 72.

Even more impressive, it's the fourth straight tournament win for Bonk in the spring. A 2008 Golf Coaches Association of America/Ping Division III All-Freshman team selection, Bonk started the season by winning the Boxer 3-Way on March 1 and has since captured the George Fox Invitational and the rain-shortened Pacific Invitational.

He'll go for his consecutive fifth title at the NWC Spring Classic, this Monday and Tuesday, at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.

BASEBALL

» Yavapai (Ariz.) College freshman Gavin Silva (Castle '08) is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 10 saves in 14 appearances for the Roughriders this season. Kirby Yates (Kauai '08) has appeared in seven games, going 2-1 with a 5.51 ERA in 32 2/3 innings. At the plate, he's hitting .410, going 25-for-61 with five doubles, a home run and 18 RBIs. Dane Kinoshita (Mid-Pacific '08) is 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings and Austin Sloan (Mid-Pacific '07) is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and two saves. All statistics are through Monday's games.

» Colorado School of Mines sophomore Nick Wong (Roosevelt '07) hit a two-run double in the Orediggers' 7-4 loss to Metro State on Sunday to wrap up a four-game series. Wong finished 4-for-14 with four RBIs and two stolen bases in the series and leads the team with a .337 average and 18 RBIs for the season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

» Washington (Mo.) University senior Shanna-Lei Dacanay (Punahou '05) finished her career with two points and one rebound in 10 minutes as the Bears lost to George Fox 60-53 in the NCAA Division III championship game on Saturday. Dacanay finished third in Bears history with 317 career assists and led the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio twice.

MEN'S TENNIS

» Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Michael Okada (Waiakea '07) won both his singles and doubles matches to lead the Boxers to a 7-2 victory over Cal Tech on Sunday. Okada teamed with Patrick Kinghorn to win their No. 2 doubles match and defeated Sam Barnett 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 in singles. Freshman Hector Alcayde (Leilehua '08) chipped in with a victory over Saurabh Pandley in the No. 6 singles position, 6-5, 6-1.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

» Cal State Northridge sophomore Brooke Doane (Kamehameha '07) defeated Julia Wartenburger 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles position and teamed with Evgeniya Vertesheva to win their No. 1 doubles match 5-2 over San Francisco to give the Matadors their sixth straight victory on Monday.

» DePauw (Ind.) sophomore Janelle Arita (Punahou '07) finished 3-1 on Monday as the Tigers, ranked 16th in Division III play, won both matches. Arita's only loss came in the first game at No. 1 singles, but she rebounded with a win over Oberlin College's Ariel Lewis, 6-3, 6-4, in the second match. She also won both of her doubles matches with teammate Kelly Gebert.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO

» Pacific (Calif.) sophomore Dara Tawarahara ('Iolani '07) scored four first-half goals to lead the Tigers to a 7-6 win over Harvard on Tuesday. Tawarahara also scored in a 17-4 loss to No. 4 Hawaii on Sunday in the Aztec Invitational.

» UC San Diego sophomore Hanalei Crowell (Kamehameha '07) scored a goal in an 11-5 loss to No. 1 Stanford on Tuesday.

» Long Beach State senior Keala O'Sullivan (Kamehameha '05) scored a goal in the third quarter to help the 49ers defeat Cal State Bakersfield 8-6 on Sunday.
