Jimmy and Jeanne Yagi established an endowed scholarship fund at the University of Hawaii at Hilo to honor their parents, James S. and Kameko Yagi, and Sadao and Bessie Y. Nishida.
Preference will be given to graduates of high schools on the Big Island.

The Surfrider Foundation hired Stuart H. Coleman as its first Hawaiian Islands Field Coordinator.
He will help the foundation's statewide chapters with the development of its Rise Above Plastics Campaign, which is working to reduce the number of plastic bags, bottles and debris that end up polluting the ocean and waterways.

SBS Media Holdings Co. Ltd. and SBS Foundation of Seoul established a $200,000 Korean Law Faculty Fund at the University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law. The UH intends to add a permanent Korean law scholar to the faculty, though visiting professors may fulfill the duties temporarily.
