Make a beeline to honey showcase

The Pacific Place Tea Garden at Ala Moana Center has some sweet thoughts to share at an event this weekend — they're calling it a trunk show, a term usually reserved for fashion showcases, but in this case the subject is made-in-Hawaii honeys.

The free event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, will feature the handiwork of the islands' busy bees, paired with Pacific Place teas.

Among samples to be offered: Creamy Organic Lehua, Christmasberry and Big Island Macadamia Nut. The discussion will cover how flavor is affected by the flowers the bees visit, honey's anti-oxidant powers and why it takes less honey than sugar to make foods sweet.
