Motorcycle crash kills Hilo man, 19
A 19-year-old Hilo man died Friday after crashing his motorcycle in Puna while speeding and doing wheel stands, Big Island police said.
Simon E. Cesar lost control of a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle on Kipimana Street, crossed the center line and struck a utility pole at 5:52 p.m.
He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he died at 8:49 p.m.
Witnesses said that Cesar, who was not wearing a helmet, had been doing wheelies up and down the street before the crash, police said.

Firefighters pull woman from trail
Firefighters airlifted a woman in her 60s to safety yesterday after she hurt her lower left leg on a Lanikai trail.
At about 3:30 p.m., firefighters hiked up the trail to meet the woman and three other hikers, said Honolulu fire Capt. Earle Kealoha. Firefighters took her to a nearby pillbox where a fire helicopter landed and picked up all four hikers.
Crews stop fire on Marine base
Federal and Honolulu county firefighters extinguished a small fire yesterday at a housing construction site on Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, a news release said.
The fire broke out at about 1 p.m. near Fort Hasse Beach, burning housing materials. No one was injured and no structures were damaged.

Fire's smoke fills Moiliili building
Firefighters extinguished a stubborn trash chute fire in a Moiliili apartment building last night.
Smoke spread from the shoot into all 12 floors of the Hono Hale Towers building B at 2651 Kuilei St., said fire Capt. Earle Kealoha.
Firefighters contained the fire on the first and second floors and used thermal imaging cameras to determine whether the fire was extinguished. Fans helped ventilate the smoke. The fire was extinguished at about 9:20 p.m. The cause was undetermined.
