Threat by letter forces evacuation

A threatening letter with an unknown substance sent to the Honolulu Police Department's career center at 10:30 a.m. yesterday forced the evacuation of a building at 715 S. King St.

The substance turned out to be harmless; the building was reopened at about 12:30 p.m.

Drug deal gone bad leads to ramming

Police yesterday arrested a 26-year-old Makaha man who allegedly rammed another man's car then set it on fire, apparently because the victim did not want to buy drugs.

Police said the victim had pulled over in Waianae to let another vehicle pass at about 10 p.m. Tuesday when the suspect pulled up. The suspect grew angry after offering to sell the victim drugs, police said.

Police said when the victim drove off, the suspect rammed his car. The victim ran away.

He returned to find his vehicle engulfed in flames and the suspect's vehicle nearby with its airbags deployed.

At about 1:10 a.m. yesterday, the suspect went to the Waianae police station and reported his vehicle stolen, police said. The victim identified the man as the driver who rammed him.

Police break up cockfight on Kauai

Kauai police confiscated more than 100 roosters, $70,000 in cash and marijuana during an apparent cockfight in Keapana on Sunday, a Kauai county news release said.

Police served a search warrant and found more than 300 people and 120 roosters, about 15 of them dead with fresh stab wounds and 20 with severe injuries. The Kauai Humane Society humanely killed those birds.

No one was arrested.
