KGMB-TV is looking for a chief meteorologist, according to a job posting on Craigslist.

Just about any job posting raises eyebrows these days, but this is a high-profile job and TV is part of the media industry in which advertising revenue has not been going in a positive direction for many, many months.

Also, the station seems to have a full roster of weatherfolk.

“;We like to stay ahead of any possible moves or changes,”; said News Director Chris Archer. The station is seeking “;to strengthen our on-air team and our image as Hawaii's Severe Weather Station.”;

“;In this economy, a job posting is a rare deal and we want to make the most of it,”; he said.

The posting attempts to discourage poseurs: “;If you are not qualified to be KGMB9's Chief Meteorologist, stop reading now.”;

Your columnist is not qualified, but defied the instruction.

The station does not insist on hiring a certified broadcast meteorologist, but applicants are required to have an “;understanding of tropical meteorology, especially relating to the Hawaiian Islands, the associated micro-climates, and local pronunciations,”; as well as five years of television experience, and other attributes.

“;We're setting the bar high, hoping it will attract a super-qualified candidate, either inside or outside of Hawaii,”; Archer said.

Broadcast meteorology certification would be ideal, but the station did not want to eliminate potentially great candidates from applying, said Rick Blangiardi, president and general manager.

“;There's a lot of good people out of work at present,”; he observed, and “;we're always recruiting and always looking to improve,”; he said.

“;We want to see, given where we are in this market, who ... might be out there.”;
