Last October, a rather remarkable thing happened for those of us used to seeing special screenings of anime-related films bypass Hawaii: One of those films actually showed up in Honolulu.

Apparently enough of you out there saw that film, “;Death Note II: The Last Name,”; because the sequel, “;Death Note: L, Change the World,”; has been confirmed for a pair of screenings in Honolulu next month.

Those of you who saw “;Death Note II”; might be wondering how a sequel could be possible. Aside from the obvious reason of milking as much money as possible from the franchise, “;L, Change the World”; focuses on eccentric ace investigator L and the final 23 days of his life. Suffice it to say that the first two films in the series are essential viewing if you want to know what's going on in this one.

The English-subtitled version of the movie will be screened at the Regal Dole Cannery 18 theaters at 7:30 p.m. April 29, while the English-dubbed version will be screened April 30 at the same time and location. Advance tickets will go on sale online for Shonen Jump subscribers on Friday at http://www.fathomevents.com, with general sales beginning Monday.

PUPS ON THE ROAD

The spring road tour rolls on for Audra Furuichi and Scott Yoshinaga, co-creators of the Web comic “;nemu*nemu.”; They'll be bringing their plush pups, T-shirts, pins and other cool swag to Bishop Museum's Family Sunday event, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, as part of this month's focus on the museum's current “;Animation”; exhibit.

All kamaaina and military families get a discounted admission rate of $3, with free admission for children ages 3 and under and Bishop Museum members. Standard admission applies for everyone else: $15.95 for adults, $12.95 for ages 4 to 12 and seniors 65 and older.
