Family Programs gets $100,000 grant
The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation has given a $100,000 grant to Family Programs Hawaii, a social service agency.
The grant, to be paid over two years, will support the agency's Project Visitation program, which helps siblings separated by the foster care system to visit one another once a month.
Family Programs Hawaii serves about 4,000 children and families involved in the child welfare system statewide.
The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, the bank's charitable arm, last year contributed $3.5 million to more than 350 nonprofit groups.
Pearl Harbor to hold job fair
The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is holding an apprentice and engineering job fair from 8:30 a.m. to noon on March 28 at the Honolulu Community College courtyard.
Besides about 100 new apprentices for January 2010, the shipyard is also looking to fill about 80 engineer and engineering support positions.
Shipyard apprentices get paid while completing a paid, four-year program that pays trainees while they earn an associate's degree from HCC.
Applications can be submitted online between March 28 and April 11 at https://acep.hawaii.navy.mil.
