The relationship between a mamaki tree and two generations of butterflies is the eco-friendly tale that author Janice Crowl tells in her new picture book. In the Hawaii rain forest, the butterfly Pulelehua rediscovers the mamaki tree that offered her shelter as a child and leaves one of her eggs on its leaves. The tree watches over the newborn butterfly, Ke Li'i, from caterpillar to its rebirth as a striking Kamehameha butterfly.

The story and illustrations teach kids about the interrelationships in nature. For adults the book offers information about rare and endangered plants and animals introduced in the story and information on how to grow mamaki.
