Crash critically injures 19-year-old

Speed and alcohol were factors in a one-vehicle crash yesterday in Kailua that sent a 19-year-old man to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

At about 2:50 a.m. a Kailua man driving alone in a Toyota sport utility vehicle Waimanalo-bound on Kalanianaole Highway near Old Kalanianaole Road crossed into the opposite lane, hit a guardrail and rolled over, police said. The man, who was not wearing his seat belt, was partially ejected.

Motorist wrecks neighbor's house

A car hit a house in Kapolei yesterday, sending the driver, a woman appearing to be in her 40s, to the hospital, witnesses and officials said.

The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. at 91-1089 Lipo St.

A neighbor across the street said she heard a crash and looked out her door to see the car already in the back yard. The car had hit the back door of the house.

Firefighters were helping to patch a large hole in the door, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The driver, a neighborhood resident, appeared to be OK, but she was taken to the hospital by ambulance, the neighbor said.

The residents were not home at the time.
