Rainbow Wahine lose 2 in softball

Baldwin High product Sanoe Kekahuna's two-run homer in the first inning helped Cal rout Hawaii 10-1 in a Chevron Spring Fling Tournament game last night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Golden Bears (20-4) pounded out 13 hits in the contest that went five innings due to the 8-run rule.

The Rainbow Wahine (10-15) dropped an earlier game yesterday, 3-0 to Wisconsin. Letty Olivarez struck out seven and scattered three hits for the Badgers (8-16).

Wisconsin scored all of its runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by Livi Abney's two-run homer to right-center with two outs.

UH's Friesen wins Zone E diving title

Hawaii's Emma Friesen won the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone E Diving Qualifying meet in Austin, Texas, yesterday, qualifying the junior for a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

Friesen, the defending NCAA 1-meter champion, will compete in both the 1- and 3-meter events next week in College Station, Texas. She goes for the zone 1-meter title today.

Kauai's Ota takes Hawaii amateur lead

Kauai's Jonathan Ota shot a 2-under 70 to take a one-shot lead over four other golfers in the Hawaii State Amateur yesterday at Pearl Country Club.

Clive Kegel, Lorens Chan, Mitsuyuki Kurokawa and Ryan Perez are tied for second going into today's second round.

Hawaii tops HPU in women's tennis

Melinda Wong and Anja-Vanessa Peter won in both singles and doubles matches yesterday to lead Hawaii to a 4-3 women's tennis victory over Hawaii Pacific at the UH Tennis Complex.

Tinka Mihova and Lauren Shin led the Sea Warriors with victories in both singles and doubles.

HPU, Grand Canyon split in baseball

Derek Grace went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Caelan O'Meara pitched six effective innings to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 6-3 victory over Grand Canyon in the second game of a baseball doubleheader yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

The Antelopes (9-12) won the first game 6-2 on Casey Collins' complete-game seven-hitter.

Blake Amaral had two hits and Cheynne Hirota drove in two runs for the Sea Warriors (16-4) in the loss.

Vulcans sign 2 men's soccer players

Sweeper Jeremy Adams and center midfielder Missael Macedo have signed letters of intent to play soccer for the Hawaii-Hilo men's team, coach Cam Camarena announced yesterday.
