Accused pimp arrested in kidnap

During a human-trafficking investigation by city, state and federal agencies, law enforcement officers found a 24-year-old woman at a Honolulu massage parlor who had been allegedly threatened and coerced into prostitution.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old Kapalama man Wednesday on two counts of kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree promotion of prostitution.

The woman told officers the pimp had allegedly coerced her into prostitution during the period of Feb. 18 and March 3, police said.

He allegedly used a firearm to threaten her.

Police said the woman, who was originally from the mainland, would not say whether she had been brought to Hawaii by the suspect. She was taken to a temporary shelter.

The man was arrested yesterday. He had been convicted of promoting dangerous drugs, a Class C felony, and five misdemeanor and petty misdemeanor cases.

Motorcyclist ID'd as Kaneohe man

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the 82-year-old motorcyclist who died from fatal injuries in an accident Sunday as Santos Ranis Sr. of Kaneohe.

Police said Ranis was traveling at 1 p.m. Sunday on a service road near the Dillingham Airfield maintenance hangars when he lost control of a 2008 Triumph motorcycle while trying to make a turn and was ejected.

Ranis was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:17 p.m.

The Medical Examiner's Office said Ranis died of multiple blunt-force injuries due to a motorcycle accident. Ranis was wearing a helmet, police said.

Haleiwa teenager arrested in attack

Police arrested a 19-year-old Haleiwa man who allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old jogger in Haleiwa.

The victim was jogging with his wife when the younger man came up and attacked him. Police said the attack appears to be unprovoked.

The man was taken in serious condition by private vehicle to an area hospital, where he was treated for head injuries.

Police found the suspect nearby and arrested him for investigation of second-degree assault.

Kauai police seek masked robber

Kauai police are looking for a man who robbed the Lihue Chevron station on Wednesday.

The man was wearing a mask when he entered the station at 12:57 a.m., pushed the cashier aside and allegedly took some cash from the register, police said. The man fled on foot.

He is described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing between 175 and 200 pounds.

He was wearing a black beanie, blue jeans and a long-sleeve white shirt, police said.
