Hats Off to benefit Red Cross

Tip your hat to the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross with a cash donation during its annual Hats Off event tomorrow and Saturday.

Off-duty firefighters, police officers, military personnel and other volunteers will be stationed at locations around Oahu, holding out their hats to encourage donations in celebration of National Red Cross Month.

Kickoff is 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Tamarind Park and the four corners of Bishop and King streets. Demonstrations will be offered in disaster preparedness, first aid, lifesaving skills and more. The Lawyers for Red Cross Bake Sale will have a booth, and radio station KSSK will broadcast interviews and stories of disaster victims, lifesavers, first responders and volunteers.

Saturday, Hats Off volunteers will take donations at 11 locations, including Wal-Mart stores at Keeaumoku Street, Pearl City, Mililani and Kunia, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Popular designers greet shoppers at special Nordstrom events

Tokidoki's Simone Legno returns to Hawaii for an appearance Saturday at the Nordstrom Ala Moana store, where he will introduce and sign his 2009 tokidoki bag collection.

The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m., and there's bound to be a long line.

Also at Nordstrom on Saturday, Leah Katz Bizoumis, head designer and president of J&A Shoes, will host a trunk show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the women's shoe department, featuring her latest Spring/Summer 2009 collections for both Athena Alexander, like the pair shown at right, and Callisto of California.

They include strappy, embellished gladiator heels and classic metallic cork wedges popular with celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Miley Cyrus, with down-to-earth prices of $49.95 to $99.95.

St. John assists Dress for Success

St. John is partnering with Dress for Success to promote economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire.

From March 18 to 22, each St. John boutique will host an open house where customers can bring their donated suits to the store and receive a $200 or $50 incentive.

Customers donating a St. John suit will receive $200 off a purchase of $1,000 or more. When a non-St. John suit is donated, customers will receive $50 off the purchase of $1,000 or more.

By providing an incentive to all customers when they donate a gently used suit, St. John is helping communities nationwide to develop the tools to help women thrive in work and in their personal lives.

Enjoy champagne and spring colors

Island girl featured in 'Grey's Anatomy'

Local girl B.K. Cannon has landed a guest role on “;Grey's Anatomy, airing tonight at 8 p.m. on KITV-ABC.

The former “;Flight 29 Down”; star also has guest-starred on “;House,”; “;ER,”; and “;Hotel Tango.”; Born and raised in Hawaii, she is a graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute and attends Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles.

Tonight's episode, titled “;I Will Follow You into the Dark,”; centers on the current anxieties of the Seattle Grace Hospital staff: Derek decides to quit, Bailey and the chief bicker, the specter of illness looms ever greater over Izzie.
