Puna man dies after ATV crash
A 49-year-old Puna man died Sunday from injuries he sustained in a crash by an all-terrain vehicle in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision in the Puna district.
Big Island police said the victim was Robert Teixeira of Kurtistown. His body was found on Road B under his Suzuki King Quad ATV.
Puna police believe he was traveling north Sunday night when he lost control of the ATV. He was wearing a helmet.
He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m.
Kauai girl lured in Internet case
A 16-year-old Kauai girl will be returned to her grandparents by Los Angeles welfare officials after she was reported missing on Sunday, Kauai County officials said yesterday.
The girl reportedly had been in communication over the Internet with a man who purchased a ticket for her to fly to Oklahoma to meet him, according to Kauai police. Her grandparents reported her missing from her Hanamaulu home Sunday morning.
Kauai police investigated and learned that the girl was en route to Oklahoma with stops in Honolulu, Los Angeles and Denver.
A photo of the girl was sent electronically to Los Angeles police, who detained the girl upon her arrival Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport.
She was turned over to California's Child & Welfare Protective Services and is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Los Angeles.
Kauai police are continuing their investigation.

Man arrested in kidnapping
A 47-year-old man with no local address was arrested early yesterday morning after he allegedly kidnapped and threatened a 37-year-old woman in Salt Lake with a knife.
Police said the woman asked the man to leave her apartment, and the two began arguing at 8:46 p.m. Sunday.
The man then allegedly punched the woman and threatened her with a large kitchen knife, police said.
He allegedly forced her into her car, but she escaped when police arrived at the apartment complex, police said.
The man fled the area but returned to the woman's apartment at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday.
Police arrested the man at Moanalualani Place and Ala Kapuna Street on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault.
Joint investigation nets 3 for fraud
Police, Secret Service agents and U.S. Postal Service inspectors conducted a joint operation Sunday and arrested three people in a case of credit-card and identification fraud, police said.
Law enforcement officials arrested a 43-year-old man with no local address and a Waikiki woman on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card. A 53-year-old Waikiki man was also arrested for the same offense as well as drug offenses.
The case is pending further investigation.
