Warriors in 19th place in Fresno

Hawaii is in 19th place after two rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Belmont Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Junior Robert Berton leads the way for the Warriors. He's in a tie for 13th place at 2-over 146 after rounds of 72 and 74 yesterday.

UC Davis and Washington are tied for first in the team competition at 8-over 584.

Hawaii is at 48-over 624 and leads only Cal State Bakersfield in the 20-team field.

Plunkett, Kessell take weekly honors

Hawaii Pacific's Krystal Plunkett was picked as the PacWest softball player of the week yesterday, and teammate Courtney Kessell was named as pitcher of the week.

Plunkett hit .583 in four games last week, going 7-for-12 with three runs scored, three doubles, an .833 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage.

Kessell went 1-1 with a 0.50 ERA and two complete games. She struck out seven batters in 14 innings and only allowed one earned run.

Amber Waracka pitched a one-hitter and Sierra Green had two hits to lead the Vulcans in a 3-0 win in the first game.

Sarah Weisskopf pitched a one-hitter and Dana Lee, Tressa Truong and Amanda Tellez all had two hits in UHH's 3-0 victory in the second game.

The Vulcans improved to 10-10 and 3-7 in the PacWest. The Argonauts are 7-9-1 and 0-6.

Seasiders No. 2 in D-II tennis poll

Brigham Young-Hawaii is No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II women's poll.

Hawaii Pacific is ranked No. 18 and Hawaii-Hilo is No. 29.

In the West Region women's poll, BYUH is No. 1, with HPU at No. 3, UHH at No. 4 and Chaminade at No. 10.

Hawaii-Hilo checked in at No. 24, followed by Brigham Young-Hawaii at No. 25.

In the West Region men's poll, HPU, UHH and BYUH are Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.

Audra Takara, Tiffany DeVincent, Natalie Phanphengdy, Silkie Kawahakui, Stacey Chaussoy and Kiana Iwado all won in singles and doubles for the Silverswords.
