Fujikawa pockets $12,805 at Honda

Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa closed with a 1-under 69 yesterday at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to shoot a 4-over 284 for the PGA Tour tournament.

The Moanalua High senior finished in a tie for 52nd after carding two bogeys and three birdies during his final round. Fujikawa earned $12,805 to go nicely with the $29,237 he pocketed after tying for 32nd at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Fujikawa plans to play on a minitour this summer after graduating in May.

 

Seasiders selected to host regional

Brigham Young-Hawaii will host an NCAA Division II men's basketball regional tournament beginning Friday.

The Seasiders, who are ranked No. 3 in the nation, will face Humboldt State in the opening round at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cal State Dominguez Hills (21-6) faces Central Washington (18-6) at 5 p.m. Friday. The winners will square off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for the right to play in the regional final next Tuesday. The Seasiders would host that game if they make it that far.

 

Andrade's RBI single lifts Hawaii

Audrey Andrade singled to drive in Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu with the winning run as Hawaii beat Oregon State 3-2 in the final game of the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament yesterday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UH freshman Stephanie Ricketts pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings of relief to earn the win.

The Rainbow Wahine improved to 9-13.

 

Rainbow Wahine to play Nebraska

The Hawaii women's volleyball team will host Nebraska in a spring exhibition match on March 19 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine are coming off a 31-4 season last fall. The Cornhuskers were national semifinalists.

Tickets go on sale today at the Sheriff Center box office with tickets ranging from $3 to $7. Tickets are also available online at HawaiiAthletics.com.

Patacchia advances in Quiksilver Pro

Hawaii's Fred Patacchia beat Australia's John Kerr 11.70 to 10.00 in a third-round heat at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast surf contest today.

Patacchia will take on Adriano de Souza of Brazil in the fourth round when the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour contest resumes.

 

Wily gets sixth player of week honor

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Latoya Wily was named Pacific West Conference women's basketball player of the week yesterday for the sixth time this season.

Wily averaged 28.5 points and 17.5 rebounds in two games for the Seasiders last week.
