Sea Warriors split with nation's No. 1

Sherise Musquiz held Lock Haven to one run as the Hawaii Pacific softball team won 3-2 to split a doubleheader yesterday in Kaneohe.

The Sea Warriors (15-3) lost the first game 1-0 when the Bald Eagles (6-4) scored a run in the top of the seventh inning.

Krystal Plunkett went 3-for-6 for the Sea Warriors in the doubleheader. Kozy Toriano drove in Tajia Acierto with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the tie in the second game.

Wily carries Seasiders to win

Latoya Wily scored 31 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's basketball team to a 91-76 win over Hawaii Pacific last night in Laie.

Wily went 10-for-18 from the field and 11-for-16 from the line while playing all 40 minutes. Tiffany Wilson, who was named the PacWest player of the week earlier in the day, led HPU with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

The Seasiders improved to 15-11, 7-5 in the conference. The Sea Warriors dropped to 14-14 and 7-5.

» Tsung-Hsien Chang led five scorers in double figures with 19 points as the BYU-Hawaii men (24-1, 12-0) beat Hawaii Pacific 99-64. The teams play again tonight.

» UH-Hilo beat Chaminade 86-67 to close its season with a 15-9, 6-6 record. The Silverswords concluded its season 0-27 and 0-12.

» Chaminade's men beat UH-Hilo 68-63 to end its season last night. Both teams finish 15-12 and 7-5 in the conference to share third place.

HPU men take down San Francisco

Hawaii Pacific's top two men's tennis players lost singles matches, but the Sea Warriors rallied to beat NCAA Division I San Francisco 5-4 yesterday at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The Sea Warriors lost their doubles point and Hendrick Bode and Sebastian Bader lost in the top two singles spots. But Daniel Luedi, Anton Samuilau, Nikola Petrov and Aleksander Markov won their singles matches to help HPU improve to 7-1. The Dons dropped to 3-6.

Rainbow Wahine fall to Mississippi State

No. 25 Mississippi State beat host Hawaii 14-11 last night on the third day of the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha softball tournament.

The Bulldogs went up 11-0 thanks to a 10-run third inning. The Rainbow Wahine fought back to within 11-8 by the end of the fourth and were within 13-11 after six, but could not complete the comeback.

Stephanie Ricketts (3-4) took the loss for UH, allowing 11 runs (eight earned) in 6 1/3 innings. Kelsey Nurnberg (8-0) got the win for MSU despite giving up four runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Richie-Anne Titcomb, Traci Yoshikawa and Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu homered for Hawaii in the loss, which snapped the Wahine's five-game win streak.
