Hawaii gas price stays the same

The statewide average price for unleaded gasoline remained at $2.45 for the second straight week while Honolulu, Hilo and Wailuku all showed increases from a month earlier, according to AAA.

Yesterday's average price in the state was 10 cents above a month ago but down $1.13 from the same time last year.

 

State to get $535.6M for job training

The U.S. Department of Labor has allotted $535.6 million to fund employment and training programs in Hawaii under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Recovery act funds are expected to go to one-stop career centers, as well as services targeting low-income, low-skilled Americans, and youth employment opportunities this summer.

 

Maui Divers unveils new store

Maui Divers Jewelry is unveiling a new concept store—Maui Divers Jewelry Collection—- at the newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Hotel as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The new, 1,000-square-foot store opens today, and will feature Maui Divers Jewelry's most exclusive handcrafted designs inspired by the Islands' natural beauty. It is the company's 52nd store.

 

Heather selected GM of Wyland Waikiki

Jim Heather has been appointed by Outrigger Enterprises Group as general manager of The Wyland Waikiki, which is being rebranded a Courtyard by Marriott this summer.

Heather, who assumed his new duties Sunday, will oversee the hotel's transition over the next few months to the newly named Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach, in addition to being responsible for all operational aspects of the 405-room hotel.

Since 2004, Heather has been general manager of the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach.
