Rainbow Wahine win 2 softball games

Clare Warwick hit a pair of home runs and drove in seven runs as the Hawaii softball team pounded the Tokyo Women's College of Physical Education 9-3 in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium yesterday.

Hawaii won its first game of the day 6-0 over Western Carolina behind a two-hitter by Stephanie Ricketts.

The Rainbow Wahine face Mount St. Mary's at noon today for the chance to play in the tournament championship at 4 p.m.

Shoji headlines QB Club speakers

University of Hawaii Wahine volleyball coach Dave Shoji heads the list of guest speakers at the Honolulu Quarterback Club's weekly luncheon tomorrow.

Shoji will review the Rainbow Wahine's 31-4 season, which ended with a loss to Stanford in the NCAA regional finals at Ft. Collins, Colo.

Michael Story, Hawaii Tourism Authority sports manager, and Nikolas Clay, the younger brother of Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bryan Clay, also will speak.

Story will provide updates on Hawaii PGA Tour events and the Pro Bowl.

Clay, a 2002 University High graduate, will provide an inside glimpse at his brother's training and upcoming competitions.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m., with the program starting at noon in the Pagoda Hotel's International Ballroom.

Hawaii Pacific sweeps BYUH in softball

Hawaii Pacific swept a softball doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii in Laie yesterday, 3-1 and 6-1.

Courtney Kessell went the distance in the opener for HPU (13-1, 3-1), allowing five hits and a walk and striking out six. In the second game, Ciera Senas went 2-for-4 with a home run, but the Sea Warriors needed a four-run seventh to finally pull away for the win.

» UH-Hilo won back-to-back games against Lock Haven 2-0 and 7-6 yesterday in Hilo. Jessica Schatz and Christina Pedroza scored a run apiece for Hilo in the first game.

In Game 2, the Vulcans capitalized on five Lock Haven errors to edge the Bald Eagles.

Vulcans surprise BYUH in men's tennis

Kevin Tamura and Luiz Gonzaga won singles matches and the No. 29 UH-Hilo men's tennis team beat No. 27 Brigham Young-Hawaii 5-1 yesterday in Hilo.

Tamura swept Agnel Peter 6-4, 7-6 and Gonzaga beat Manu Bajpai 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. The Vulcans swept all three doubles matches.

» The Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team defeated fifth-ranked Azusa Pacific yesterday in Azusa, Calif. HPU claimed all three doubles matches to help stay undefeated at 3-0.

» The Hawaii Pacific women's team won two matches on their road trip to California. The Sea Warriors swept Vanguard 6-0 before beating No. 6 Azusa Pacific 4-3.

» The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team blanked UH-Hilo 7-0 yesterday in Hilo. The second-ranked Seasiders improved to 11-0.
