U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public meeting Wednesday at McKinley High School on to determine the scope of a draft environmental impact statement for a project to use seawater to run air conditioners in buildings in town.

Honolulu Seawater Air Conditioning LLC wants to pump cold ocean water into a plant, where fresh water would be cooled down. The cold fresh water would then be used to bring down temperatures in buildings.

A proposed pipeline staging and assembly area at Keehi Lagoon and the proposed pipeline installation sites at Kakaako are located within the navigable waters of the United States and subject to the regulatory jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
