Minister Don Piper and Australian Nick Vujicic will appear at various churches

Two speakers who have turned disabling hardships in their lives into missions to help other people will appear here next month through the Waterhouse Lecture Series.

; Don Piper, a Baptist minister from Texas, will talk about his encounter with death, which he wrote about in his 2007 book, “;90 Minutes in Heaven.”; Piper was declared dead at the scene of a 1989 traffic accident, was restored and has undergone 34 surgeries. Through his Don Piper Ministries, he speaks to churches and other groups around the country.

Piper's public appearances will include talks at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. March 8 at Waialae Baptist Church, 1047 21st Ave., and at 6 p.m. March 15 at Mililani Baptist Church, 94-293 Anania Drive.

Nick Vujicic of Australia calls his ministry “;Life Without Limbs.”; Born with no arms or legs, he turned a personal tragedy into a successful life as a motivational speaker. Vujicic, 26, has spoken to church and youth groups, business seminars and prison inmates in 12 countries.

He will make several appearances during a two-week speaking tour in Hawaii. They include the following talks open to the public:

» March 20, 6 p.m., state Capitol Rotunda

The Waterhouse Lecture Series was endowed by the trust of the late Alexander Cooke Waterhouse, a longtime member of Waialae Baptist Church.
