Star-Bulletin's UH preview honored
The Associated Press Sports Editors yesterday named the Star-Bulletin's 2008 UH football preview one of the top special sections of the year.
“;Times Are A Changing”; was one of 10 special sections honored in the category for newspapers with a circulation of 40,000-100,000, marking the Star-Bulletin sports department's sixth year in a row earning notice for a special section.
Hawaii swimmers in second place
Hawaii is in second place after the first day of the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships in Houston.
The Rainbow Warriors placed second in the 200-yard medley relay as Horativ Anastasescu, Nicola Xella, Sean Reilly and Davis Kane finished in 1 minute, 28.61 seconds.
Anastasescu, Matt Dentone, Steve Allnut and Mark Higley took third in the 800-yard freestyle in 6:37.23.
UH trails first-place SMU by two points in the standings, 114-112.
Weir is booster club's new director
Don Weir has been named to the new position of executive director for Na Koa, the University of Hawaii's football booster club.
Weir, a two-year letterwinner in football in the 1970s at UH, is also the volunteer president for the UH Letterwinners Club. In his new post, he will coordinate Na Koa's fundraising campaign.

Seasiders, 'Swords split in softball
Brigham Young-Hawaii and Chaminade split a softball doubleheader yesterday in Laie.
The Seasiders (5-9) won the opener 8-0 on Katresha Veazie's one-hitter.
Shalin Yamaguchi's single in the top of the eighth inning gave the Silverswords a 1-0 win in the second game.
Pitcher Kasy'e Lalau tossed a three-hitter for the first victory of the season for Chaminade (1-11).
BYUH still tops in West Region poll
Brigham Young-Hawaii retained its No. 1 spot in the NCAA Division II West Region men's basketball poll released yesterday.
The Seasiders (21-1) are ranked third nationally in the coaches poll and are 15-0 against West Region teams.
Chaminade (12-5) is ranked No. 8 in the West Region.
If the Seasiders hold their top spot and the Silverswords remain in the rankings, BYUH would host the West Region tournament, according to Seasiders sports information director Scott Lowe.
Hawaii's Forney re-signs with Chargers
SAN DIEGO » Offensive lineman Kynan Forney bypassed free agency yesterday by re-signing with the San Diego Chargers.
The former Hawaii standout, who was inactive for every game last season, signed a two-year deal.
Before signing a free-agent contract with the Chargers last year, Forney played seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, starting 88 of 95 games, mostly at guard.
