A promising start for Ryan Mouton at the NFL Combine ended in disappointment yesterday in Indianapolis.

The former Hawaii cornerback ranked among the leaders at his position in the vertical jump and broad jump before heading to the 40-yard dash. But he felt his hamstring “;pop”; early in his first attempt, ending his day prematurely.

“;It was kind of disappointing. I just have to rehab it and get ready for pro day,”; Mouton said. “;It makes (pro day) a lot more important. Hopefully I can get this thing healed.”;

Hawaii's pro day, another opportunity for players to workout for scouts prior to the NFL Draft, is scheduled for April 2 in Carson, Calif. Mouton is scheduled to return to Honolulu today and will begin treatment on the injury during his stay.

Mouton said he injured his hamstring during the East-West Shrine Game last month, but felt confident heading into the combine. His vertical jump of 39.5 inches was tied for third among cornerbacks. He was also third in the broad jump at 10 feet, 9 inches.

He said he had interviews with officials from the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his stay in Indianapolis.
