Fill up on pancakes for a cause

IHOP restaurants are marking National Pancake Day tomorrow by offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in exchange for donations to the Children's Miracle Network.

The chain's goal is to raise $1 million nationwide. In Hawaii, funds will go to the Children's Miracle Network program at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.

Free pancake hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at IHOP locations in Honolulu and on Maui. Visit www.ihoppancakeday.com.

Grants offered to help children

The Hawaii Women's Legal Foundation is accepting grant applications for projects that aid women and children.

Typical grant amounts are $500 to $5,000, with primary consideration going to projects that would improve women's and children's access to the legal system; reduce child abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse; increase financial independence; and improve health, education and welfare.

PBS Hawaii airs in high definition

The PBS Hawaii series “;Na Mele: Traditions in Hawaiian Song”; offers its first program in high definition tonight. Normally recorded in the PBS studio in Manoa, this program was taped at the Halekulani's House Without a Key, featuring performances by the Kahau'anu Lake Trio and dancers Kanoe Miller and Debbie Nakanelua-Richards.

The program will include reminiscences by Beverly Noa, who danced at the Halekulani with singer Ed Kenney more than 20 years ago.

The show airs at 7:30 p.m. on KHET/PBS.
