Maryland edges Wahine in softball

Maryland's Sarah Dooley pitched a three-hitter as the Terrapins beat the Hawaii softball team 3-2 in the first day of the Cathedral City Classic in California.

Maryland improved to 2-5 and UH fell to 2-9.

The Wahine were hitless until Katie Grimes singled with two outs in the fifth. They scored twice in the seventh on a run-scoring ground out by Tanisha Milca and Clare Warwick's RBI single.

UCLA tops Hawaii in water polo

Priscilla Orozco scored three goals to lead fourth-ranked UCLA past No. 3 Hawaii 11-8 in a water polo match in Los Angeles yesterday.

UH, which led 6-5 at halftime, was led by Carmen Eggens and Dagmar Genee with three goals each.

The Rainbow Wahine fell to 6-4. The Bruins improved to 8-2.

Arizona leads by 6 at Burns tourney

Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus shot 2-under 70 yesterday at Leilehua Golf Course, pacing the Wildcats to a six-shot lead headed into today's final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament.

Host Hawaii entered today in 14th place. T.J. Kua is tied for 31st place at 1-under 143 after shooting a 75 yesterday.

BYUH tennis team defeats Chaminade

Brigham Young-Hawaii swept Chaminade 9-0 in women's tennis yesterday in Laie.

Yuan Jia, Jenny Chin, Wen-Ling Wang and Shawni Porter all won singles and doubles matches for the Seasiders.

No. 2-ranked BYUH improved to 7-0.

Dixie State sweeps UHH in softball

Haley Schumers and Lauren Folta of Dixie State both pitched shutouts against Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday in a softball game at St. George, Utah.

The Red Storm won 9-0 and 2-0.

Sierra Green went 3-for-3 in the first game for the Seasiders, who fell to 3-5 and 1-5 in the PacWest. Dixie State improved to 11-1 and 4-0.
