Assets, the school for gifted and/or dyslexic children, scored “;Monk”; star Tony Shalhoub and his actress wife, Brooke Adams, to headline its annual fundraiser next Friday at the Sheraton Waikiki, thanks to the relatively new head of school, Paul Singer, who befriended Shalhoub and Adams during his decades at the Country School in Los Angeles.
Shalhoub's long resume includes star turns in the long-running series “;Wings”; as well as feature films such as “;Spy Kids,”; “;Galaxy Quest”; and “;The Siege.”; Adams also has worked on “;Monk,”; “;Wings,”; “;Moonlighting”; and “;Law and Order: SVU.”;
“;I was thrilled that Brooke and Tony were willing to get involved, because we thought they might be able to increase the level of interest, and that seems to be the case,”; said Singer, who replaced Lou Salza last year. The primary purpose of the event is to raise money for financial aid. Tickets cost $150. Call 440-3621 ...

“;Lost”; star Daniel Dae Kim is now in the Hawaii restaurant business, having become part owner with veteran restaurateur D.K. Kodama of the Counter, an upscale hamburger joint in Kahala which opened Monday. The gourmet eatery gives patrons the opportunity to create their own luscious combinations - for a price, of course.
The business endeavor hints that Kim's role on “;Lost”; is solid, and his recent screen time in the intricately woven plot confirms that. I'm going to catch up with him this morning and ask about his new place in the time warp - which has earned him plenty of national media attention - after it looked like he was dead in the water. His guest spot on “;The View”; elicited an entertaining if cryptic inquiry about “;Lost”; from Whoopi Goldberg: “;What the hell is going on?”;
Kim shared his love for theater when I chatted with him for the cover story in the Star-Bulletin's sister publication, HILuxury magazine; he revealed on “;The View”; that he's heading to London during the hiatus to perform the lead role in “;The King and I.”; Watch him in the hot seat at lost-media.com/2009/02/11 ...

A couple of worthless thugs broke into my home last week, ransacked bedrooms and stole our computers, jewelry and other valuables. They also took my notebooks, calendar and screeners from local filmmakers - all in the laptop bag - leaving me without my usual abundance of column material. So, if you happen upon someone selling a white iMac with a chip in the plastic trim where your right palm rests, I'd be grateful for the tip. Investigators, friends and I are working diligently with good leads, but we can always use more help ...
