COMING UP
Sink your teeth into malassadas on Fat Tuesday
Fat Tuesday seems like a rude name to give to a day of the week, but consider its purpose—a day to indulge before the deprivations of Lent. And even if you don't plan to give up anything for Lent, you're still allowed to take part in the tradition, which in Hawaii means malassadas.
Hit your favorite malassada bakery on Tuesday, or drive through the Damien Memorial School parking lot from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Single malassadas will be sold there for 70 cents, a half-dozen for $4 or a dozen for $6.
The pastries will be fried up fresh in the school cafeteria and proceeds will go to student programs at Damien.

Explore concept of balance in sake

Tokyo Tokyo is at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.
Cost is $37. Call 222-5591 or make a reservation online through joyofsake.com/AfterTaste.
