Circuit City's last day will be Sunday
Circuit City at Pearlridge Center in Aiea will finish its liquidation sale and close on Sunday.
After failing to work out a sale, Circuit City Stores Inc. of Richmond, Va., announced it would be liquidating all 567 of its U.S. stores in January. The Circuit City at Pearlridge Center, where it has been more than 12 years, is Hawaii's only store.
Gift cards may be redeemed at full value at the store, but will have no value once it is closed.
Refund scheme organizer guilty
The State Department of Taxation said late last week that an Oahu woman pled no contest on Jan. 28 to 26 counts in connection with a fraudulent refund scheme that spanned three years.
Icelane Kuhiiki filed 13 fraudulent Hawaii income tax returns for the tax years 2005, 2006 and 2007, claiming fictitious tax refunds.
According to the complaint, Kuhiiki used Social Security numbers of seven individuals and false income amounts in each of the 13 filings. Kuhiiki is charged with 13 counts of false and fraudulent returns, 10 counts of theft in the second degree and three counts of attempted theft in the second degree.
Kuhiiki will be sentenced before Judge Derrick Chan on April 14.
Primo beer available on mainland
Primo beer will be available in bars and stores throughout California and parts of Nevada for the first time in more than a decade, Primo Brewing & Malting Co. said yesterday. Primo Brewing is a division of Woodridge, Ill.-based beer giant Pabst Brewing Co.
Primo became available again in Hawaii in 2007, nearly a decade after its last pour in 1998.
A portion of all Primo sales will go toward the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation and the Hawaiian chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
