The Consular Corps of Hawaii inducted Toshio Kunikata as its dean for 2009 at its 57th Annual Inaugural Ball Saturday. It also honored U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye with its Distinguished Service Award; and William E. Paupe, dean emeritus and honorary consul of Kiribati, with the Distinguished Service Medal. Lifetime Achievement Awards went to deans emeriti: Retired U.S. Army Gen. Herbert E. Wolff, honorary consul of Malaysia; and Laurence Vogel, honorary consul of Denmark.

Gregory B. Evans of Aiea was promoted to the rank of Eagle Scout by the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America in November. He is with Unit 147, chartered by the Alvah Scott Elementary School Parent Teacher School Organization.

Gerald S. Clay, a longtime Honolulu mediator and attorney, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial mediators, the third attorney in Hawaii to hold the distinction. He has mediated more than 2,000 employment, labor, personal injury, commercial, product liability and other disputes in Honolulu and is the author of “;Before You Sue.”;

The Honolulu Police Department announced the promotion of nine officers: Andre Carreira, Denise Kawabata, Robert Natividad, Robert Oakes achieved the rank of sergeant; Lance Hayashi, Craig Miki, James Slayter, Thomas Smith and Erik Yamane were promoted to detectives.

Winners of the 11th Annual Valentine Card Contest at Waipio Center include $50 first-prize winners Sae Higa, in the under-age-7 category; Kira Dolan, ages 7 to 12; and Jessicalyn Sheely, 12 and older. All cards were donated to the St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii.
