An advance taste of the annual Kirk Cashmere Jewish Film Festival will be presented tomorrow with the free showing of an award-winning Israeli film at Temple Emanu-El.

Six other films depicting Jewish life, history and humor will be shown in the annual festival, which will be held this year at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Doris Duke Theatre.

The 7 p.m. show tomorrow at 2550 Pali Highway will feature “;The Band's Visit,”; a film about the reception an Egyptian police band receives when it goes astray on a concert tour in Israel. It won awards at film festivals in Israel, Montreal and Sarajevo. It is open to the public.

The film festival will open at the Honolulu Academy of Arts next Saturday. The schedule:

» Next Saturday, 7:30 p.m., “;The Debt,”; an Israeli suspense thriller.

» Feb. 22, 1 p.m., “;Arranged,”; an American film about two female teachers, a Muslim and a Jew, and the friendship that develops as they prepare for arranged marriages.

» Feb. 22, 7:30 p.m., “;Beaufort,”; an Israeli film about Israeli soldiers defending a castle in Lebanon.

» Feb. 28, 7:30 p.m., “;Noodle,”; an Israeli film about a Chinese child who lives with an Israeli family after his mother is deported.

» March 1, 1 p.m., “;Max Minsky and Me,”; a German movie about a 13-year-old Jewish girl who joined a basketball team with the goal of meeting the boy of her dreams.

» March 1, 7:30 p.m., “;Blessed Is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh,”; a documentary from the U.S. and Czech Republic about a young resistance fighter who was executed in Yugoslavia during World War II.

Tickets may be purchased prior to each show. The cost is $7 for adults; $6 for seniors, students and military personnel; $5 for academy members; and $3 for children under 12.
