Mermaids frolic in holiday show

Mermaids Hawaii is offering a Valentine's Day water show in Waikiki, the first of the group's 39th summer season.

Show time is 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel, 120 Kaiulani Ave., featuring synchronized swimming routines set to classical, Hawaiian and contemporary music.

Aquarium sets a seductive mood

The Waikiki Aquarium's seasonal celebrations kick off with the annual Seaduction Valentine's Day dinner on Saturday. Participants will enjoy a candlelit dinner in the galleries with champagne reception, three-course meal (with wine) catered by Ginniberries, a souvenir for each lady and valet parking. » Seahunt: Keiki ages 2 to 7 may hunt for toy-filled eggs, and children of all ages may visit with the Easter Bunny, fish for prizes at the “;fish pond,”; and enjoy entertaining arts, crafts and games on April 4.

» Earth Day: The 2nd Annual Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo will showcase the efforts of government agencies to protect Hawaii's environment, with an emphasis on island water resources. » Seasons and the Sea: Celebrating the official changing of the seasons at a special sunset observance, Seasons and the Sea will feature traditional chant, hula and storytelling. Celebrants will observe the official change from ho'olilo (wet season) to kauwela (hot or warm-dry season) on May 2 as the sun sets into the crown of Pu'u o Kapolei (a once-a-year occurrence).

Running coach leads workshop

Running expert Rick Chin hosts a free workshop tomorrow at Lululemon Athletica in Ala Moana Center.

Chin is coach of the Mid-Pacific Institute cross-country team and Godspeed Track Club.

His session, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., will include tips on proper running technique, gear, training and nutrition.

Latin-style meal on class menu

Chef Raul Bernal will create a three-course Latin-style meal using local ingredients at “;Cooking Revelations with Raul: Flavors of Latin America,”; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Green House.

Recipes from the workshop will be provided and Bernal's dishes will be served. Cost is $25.

Master sommelier Roberto Viernes hosts a tasting seminar, “;Wines of Maison Louis Latour,”; 6 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday at the Honolulu Design Center's Cupola Theater.

The tasting will feature these white wines: 2006 Meursault, 2006 Chassagne Montrachet, 2006 Puligny Montrachet, 2006 Meursault “;Charmes,”; 2006 Chassagne Montrachet “;Caillerets,”; 2006 Puligny Montrachet “;Truffieres,”; 2006 Corton Charlemagne and 2006 Batard Montrachet. The Wine Stop celebrates Valentine's Day with free tastings of wine and chocolate on Friday and Saturday.

“;Pau Hana Friday Wine & More”; will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday's tasting of ports, zinfandels and chocolates will be held from 1 to 5 p.m.

On Monday, Ken and Akiko Freeman of the Freeman Winery in Sonoma Valley, Calif., will offer samples of their pinot noirs from 5 to 7 p.m.
