Man killed in truck accident identified
Big Island police identified a 61-year-old Kealakekua man who died Wednesday after a pickup truck overturned in a ditch as Gilbert J. Ransley.
“;The truck rolled down Kealaola Street into a ditch, overturning and pinning Ransley inside, police said.
The Fire Department freed Ransley and took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he died at 6:51 p.m.
Police give name of victim in crash
Big Island police identified a 29-year-old Kailua-Kona motorcyclist who died Friday after being struck by a van as Steven L. Carvalho.
Carvalho was operating a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle, heading north on Kuakini Highway, when a 2006 Toyota van traveling south failed to yield the right of way and made a left turn in front of the motorcycle onto Hualalai Road, police said.
Fire personnel transported Carvalho to Kona Community Hospital, where he died at 7:28 p.m.
The 23-year-old Kailua-Kona woman driving the van was not injured.
A negligent-homicide investigation has been opened.

This was the fifth Big Island traffic fatality this year, compared with four at the same time last year.
Mo-ped victim was Kailua-Kona man
A mo-ped operator who died last Tuesday after a crash in Kailua-Kona was identified by police as Jason Snell, 34, of Kailua-Kona.
The crash occurred on Alii Drive fronting Magic Sands Beach. Police previously reported his age as 20.
Snell was traveling on Alii Drive when he struck the back of a Nissan Pathfinder that was stopped on the roadway, police said.
Maui residents warned of scam
WAILUKU » Maui Police Department officials say a group is falsely claiming it is making telephone solicitations on behalf of relatives of officers.
Lt. Wallace Tom said the department never solicits funds from the public. Tom said yesterday that citizens should not give out any personal information or bank information to these callers.

Former boyfriend charged in assault
A 42-year-old Kapolei man was charged with first-degree sexual assault for attacking his ex-girlfriend, police said.
Todd Titcomb was being held on $150,000 bail.
At 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Titcomb allegedly violated a restraining order to enter his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend's Kapolei home and sexually assaulted her.
