Howland, Jerman qualify for SBS

Janell Howland shot a 69 and Angela Jerman carded a 61 yesterday at Turtle Bay to qualify for this week's SBS Open.

Howland and Jerman were the class of the nine-player field, with Jerman clearing third-place finisher Sophia Sheridan by three strokes.

The SBS Open is an LPGA event that begins on Thursday at Turtle Bay.

Chaminade's Smith is player of week

Senior guard Joel Smith of Chaminade was selected as the Pacific West conference men's basketball player of the week yesterday.

In two wins last week, Smith shot 61 percent from the field, averaging 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and three assists.
