Distinguished UH alumni honored

The University of Hawaii 2009 Distinguished Alumni Awards were given to Dr. Chiyome Fukino, John A. Burns School of Medicine class of 1979 and current state health director; Lois Horton, a 1969 graduate and current professor of American studies; James Horton, 1969 graduate and current professor of American studies; Dee Jay Mailer, who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 and her M.B.A. in 1985. She is currently the chief executive officer of the Kamehameha Schools; and Sabrina McKenna, who earned her bachelor's degree in 1978 and her law degree in 1982. She is a state circuit judge.

The 2009 UH Founders Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award went to Daniel Lau, class of 1941 and co-founder and chairman of Finance Factors.

N&K CPAs announced the following promotions: Ying Yan Chen to tax manager from tax supervisor; Shari Lau to audit supervisor from audit senior; Cory Brede to audit supervisor from audit senior.

Bennet Group promoted Char Chang from account director to vice president. She will oversee Bennet Group's Consumer Marketing Division.
