Father is arrested in son's death
A 60-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting his son on the Big Island was arrested yesterday upon his release from a Honolulu hospital.
Honolulu police arrested Randal K. Randrup at 10:45 a.m. yesterday outside Rehab Hospital of the Pacific.
Randrup, who was charged with second-degree murder, is being held on $1 million bail.
His son, Hans Christian Randrup, 27, was found Dec. 12 at the base of a sea cliff in Mackenzie State Park, 25 miles southeast of Hilo.
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Police had been searching for the father after his son's body was discovered.
Police located the father at the Queen's Medical Center on Dec. 15 after a one-car crash two days earlier on Hawaii Belt Road in Captain Cook on the Kona side of the Big Island.
Elderly pedestrian is hit by bus
An elderly man was critically injured last night after being struck by a bus, according to Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. yesterday at South Beretania and McCully streets, police said.
The man, who appeared to be in his 70s, was taken in critical condition to an area trauma center, Cheplic said.
Police diverted traffic on McCully and Beretania streets onto Young Street.
Teen is arrested in Waianae assault
Police arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday night on Hanalei Street who allegedly repeatedly punched a 42-year-old man in the face in Waianae.
Police said the 18-year-old got into an argument with the older man at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
When the victim ran into the house to call 911, the suspect fled the scene, police said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. When he returned home later that night, he found the teen there and called 911.
Police arrested the suspect for second-degree assault.
