Fairfield University freshman Michelle Yoshida (Punahou '08) claimed her third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's swimmer of the week award after another dominant performance in the pool.

Yoshida set her fifth individual school record of the season when she won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 56.12 seconds in a double-dual meet against Iona College and Loyola College.

She also won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.98 seconds, less than a second off the school record.

Yoshida capped the day by anchoring the 200-yard medley relay team, swimming the fastest anchor split to help the Stags finish in 1:54.74.

Up next for Yoshida is the 2009 MAAC Championships, Feb. 12-14, in Baltimore.

Men's Swimming & Diving

» Fairfield freshman Kekoa Taparra (Kamehameha '08) won three individual events in a double-dual meet against Iona College and Loyola College. Taparra won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.30 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:10.39. Taparra also won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.03.

» North Carolina State senior Andrew Lester (Moanalua '05) swam the fastest 1,000-yard freestyle time on the team this season, finishing in 9:21.27 in a dual meet against North Carolina on Tuesday. Lester also won the 500 freestyle in 4:33.16.

» Linfield junior Yusuke Kobayashi (Kaiser '06) continued his recent hot streak with a victory in the 200 butterfly (1:58.60) in a dual meet against Pacific on Saturday. Kobayashi also swam in Linfield's only relay win of the day, helping the Wildcats capture the 400-freestyle relay in 3:22.89.

Women's Tennis

» UC Irvine senior Heidi Kaloi (Kamehameha '05) won both her singles and doubles match to help the Anteaters beat Hawaii 4-3 last Friday. Kaloi beat Hawaii's Aglae Van den Bergh 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in No. 6 singles. She teamed with Stephanie Hammel to win their No. 2 doubles match 8-5.

Men's Basketball

» Colorado School of Mines senior Kyle Pape ('Iolani '05) led all scorers with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting as the Orediggers beat Colorado Christian University 88-60 on Tuesday night. Pape hit two 3-pointers and added two steals and two rebounds in 27 minutes.

» Linfield (Ore.) junior guard Cody Tesoro (Baldwin '05) finished with 15 points, three assists and two rebounds in an 87-78 loss to Puget Sound on Saturday. Tesoro is averaging 10.2 points per game and shooting 44 percent from the field this season.

Women's Basketball

» UNLV freshman Jamie Smith ('Iolani '08) finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks in an 83-58 loss to San Diego State, dropping the Rebels to 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference.

» Idaho freshman Shaena-Lyn Kuehu (Punahou '08) played 37 minutes and finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the Vandals to a 66-50 win over Hawaii. Kuehu hit two 3-pointers and added two steals to help Idaho beat the Rainbow Wahine for the first time in school history.

Men's Volleyball

» Stanford freshman Brad Lawson ('Iolani '08) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation co-player of the week after leading the Cardinal to a stunning five-set comeback victory over Long Beach State last Friday. Lawson finished with a career-high 27 kills, hit .438 and chipped in 11 digs in the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Spencer McLachlin (Punahou '07) added 17 kills, 10 digs and five block assists. Freshman Erik Shoji (Punahou '08) had a team-high 13 digs and junior setter Kawika Shoji ('Iolani '06) came off the bench to finish with 38 assists, nine digs, four block assists and one solo block.

» Southern California sophomore setter Riley McKibbin (Punahou '07) had 36 assists, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans had a five-match winning streak snapped by Pepperdine last Friday. McKibbin also had six digs and a block assist in the three-game sweep. Tri Bourne (Academy of the Pacific '07) also played in one of the games for the Trojans.
