Spartans hand Wahine first loss
Fourth-ranked Hawaii blew a five-goal lead and lost in overtime 10-8 to No. 10 San Jose State in a water polo match in San Jose, Calif., yesterday.
It was the first loss of the season for the Rainbow Wahine (4-1), who held a 7-2 lead at the end of the third period.
Senior Kelly Mason led Hawaii with four goals.
Estrada in lead after first day
Hawaii-Hilo junior Rodolfo Estrada, competing as an unattached individual, leads the pack after firing a 6-under 66 yesterday in the opening round of the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate golf tournament at the Mauna Lani North Golf Course on the Big Island.
Hawaii-Hilo's Christopher Armanini sits in ninth place after shooting a 2-under 70 in the 17-team tournament that includes Hawaii and defending champion Stanford.
Washington leads the team competition at 7-under 281. The Vulcans are in 11th place after shooting a 12-over 300. Hawaii sits in last at 26-over 314.
Play resumes today.
Cougars top Silverswords in baseball
Azusa Pacific scored six runs on seven hits in a six-run third inning to beat Chaminade 9-5 in a college baseball game yesterday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Erika Marmolejo went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and four RBIs to lead the Cougars (1-0).
The Silverswords are 0-1.

Eagles second baseman Hawkins Gebbers went 4-for-4 with a home run, and Charlie Gausepohl scattered four hits over three innings to earn the win.
Senior first baseman Matt Haasenritter led the Vulcans, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was called due to rain.

Azusa routs Chaminade in softball
Azusa Pacific trounced Chaminade 13-1 in women's softball yesterday. The Cougars' Natalie Mickelson slammed two homers and drove in seven runs to lead the way.
Seasiders remain at top in region
Brigham Young-Hawaii held on to the top spot in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Region poll released yesterday.
The Seasiders (15-1, 9-0) are off to their best start in school history and face Grand Canyon today in a PacWest Conference matchup in Laie.
