Suspect charged in Koko Crater attacks
POSTED: Thursday, February 05, 2009
The teenage suspect in the Koko Crater stabbings was charged yesterday afternoon with three counts of attempted murder.
Benjamin Davis, 19, was released from the Queen's Medical Center and taken back to the Honolulu Police Department's downtown cellblock, where he was formally charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and was expected to appear in court this morning.
On Sunday he allegedly stabbed a 55-year-old California man in the back and allegedly stabbed another man, who is in his 20s, several times, critically wounding him.
Police arrested Davis after a four-hour search in Hawaii Kai near Koko Crater. He was found naked in brush near homes above Ahukini Street.
Family and friends suspect Davis had been given crystal methamphetamine by a neighborhood dealer last week, causing his behavior to turn bizarre.
Davis was taken to the Queen's Medical Center Tuesday night for an unspecified reason.
He also was booked on a harassment petty misdemeanor charge after he was allegedly “;acting up”; while detained in the cellblock yesterday afternoon, police said.
