T.C. Ching Field dedicated at UH

The dedication for the Clarence T.C. Ching Field was held yesterday morning on the Hawaii campus.

The $1.2 million turf replacement project is the first phase of the Ching Athletics Compex, which will include a 5,000-seat stadium, locker room and coaches offices.

The Warriors football team will use the field beginning with the opening of spring practice March 30.

 

Warriors up to 11th in volleyball

Despite two victories over the second-ranked team, the Hawaii men's volleyball team only moved up one spot in the Bison/AVCA Division I-II coaches poll.

The Warriors (3-6, 2-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) are sitting at No. 11 during their bye week.

Defending national champion Penn State (7-0) remained the unanimous first-place team, receiving all 16 first-place votes. Pepperdine (6-0) and UC Irvine (8-2) both moved up a spot while former No. 2 Cal State Northridge dropped two spots to fourth.

 

WAC tennis honor to UH's Kobuch

Hawaii junior Sophie Kobuch was named the Western Athletic Conference player of the week in women's tennis yesterday, the second weekly honor of her career.

Kobuch went 3-1 last week, winning one singles match, then teaming with Aglae Van den Bergh for two wins in doubles.

Wily leads Seasiders to sixth straight

Senior forward Latoya Wily had game highs of 35 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's basketball team to its sixth straight victory, an 81-77 win over Dixie State at Cannon Activities Center.

Wily was 15 of 18 from the field for the Seasiders (10-7, 4-2 PacWest). Sophomore guard Richelle Fenenbock added 15 points and junior guard Mahina Gago 14.

Jessie Ingraham led the Red Storm (11-8, 4-2) with 19 points.

» Lucas Alves scored 33 points and five other teammates were in double figures as No. 4 Brigham Young-Hawaii took over sole possession of the PacWest men's basketball standings with a 100-79 victory over Dixie State at Cannon Activities Center.

Tsung-Hsien Chang added 17 points for the Seasiders (15-1, 6-0 PWC), winners of 12 straight.

Tom Whitehead came off the bench for 16 points to lead the Red Storm (11-8, 5-1).
