Museum offers discount to Foodbank donors

See Bishop Museum and support the Hawai'i Foodbank, all in one outing.

From Thursday through Feb. 12, museum visitors will get a break on admission when they bring a canned-good donation—$1 off per can for up to three cans.

The offer also applies on Sunday, when the Mary Kawena Pukui Performing Arts Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the museum's Great Lawn.

The food bank is especially in need of canned meats and tuna, meals (spaghetti, chili, corned beef hash), soups, vegetables and fruits.

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular kamaaina and military admission is $8.95; $7.95 children. Sunday's admission is a special $3; $2 with a food-bank donation. Call 847-3511 or visit www.bishopmuseum.org.

ReWARDS event helps nonprofits

Nonprofit groups interested in some extra cash are invited to join Ward Centers' Friends+Family+Community ReWARDS weekend.

Groups will sell tickets to the sales event—and keep all the ticket proceeds. Sales take place in February for the April 24-26 event.

The $5 tickets provide discounts and special offers from participating shops and restaurants, pegged for Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduation.

Groups interested should attend a meeting at 9 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Ward Warehouse Kaka'ako Conference Room. Call 591-8411.

Cherry blossoms abloom on Big Isle

The Annual Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival on Saturday celebrates the blooming of the historic cherry trees at Church Row Park on the Big Island.

This year's festival remembers former Lt. Gov. Nelson Doi, a Waimea resident who co-wrote Hawaii's Constitution and delivered it to Washington, D.C.

Performances, mochi pounding and bonsai demonstrations are among events offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A free program will provide a map to participating venues, and a free shuttle will be available. Call 961-8706.
