UH track athletes place at UW Invite

Three athletes from the University of Hawaii women's track and field team placed in the top 10 of their respective events yesterday in Seattle.

Annett Wichmann finished fourth in the individual shotput one day after taking third in the pentathlon. Teammate Emily Sheppard placed seventh overall in the high jump, and Anika Borden was eighth in the weight throw.

» The UH women's water polo team won its first two matches of the season, beating Sonoma State 14-1 and UC Davis 11-7 yesterday in Santa Clara, Calif.

Eight UH players scored goals in the first win. Leonie van der Molen and Saara Majuri had three goals for UH in the second match.

Trapasso, Wilton to speak at QB Club

Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso and men's volleyball coach Mike Wilton are scheduled to speak at the Honolulu Quaterback Club's weekly luncheon tomorrow at the Pagoda Hotel's International Ballroom.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m.

Grand Canyon drops UHH in hoops

Engen Nurumbi scored 22 points to lead Grand Canyon to an 82-71 men's basketball victory over Hawaii-Hilo last night at Hilo.

The Antelopes improved to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Jay DeMaestri scored a team-high 19 points for the Vulcans (10-8, 3-4).

» Ryan Sanchez scored 16 points to lead Dixie State past Hawaii Pacific 77-58 at Blaisdell Arena.

The Rebels improved to 10-7 and 4-0.

Mike Helton led the Sea Warriors (7-8, 1-4) with 22 points.

» Deney Phommabout led four Dixie State players in double figures with 18 points to lead the Rebels to a 77-73 women's basketball win over Hawaii Pacific last night at Blaisdell Arena.

Dixie State improved to 11-7 and 4-1.

Tiffany Wilson had a team-high 22 points and eight rebounds for the Sea Warriors (8-10, 5-1).
