Playwright seeks 'Mama' stories
Maui playwright Pat Masumoto is collecting stories about people and their mothers, to be used in a stage presentation, “;My Mama Monologues,”; over the Mother's Day weekend in May.
Selected stories will be combined in a script read by actors.
Deadline to submit stories is Feb. 5.
Masumoto says her own mother, Florence Hasegawa, “;who is a spry 100,”; will be providing a story about her own mother, who came to Hawaii from Japan in the early 1900s.
She hopes to hear from writers worldwide and to take “;Monologues”; to stages throughout the state and beyond.

Stories must be typed or legibly written in English, from the point of view of the author. They should be limited to 1,200 words or seven minutes of voiced reading. On a separate page include author's name, age, gender, address, e-mail address and telephone number. Those who don't want their names revealed should write “;author is shy.”;
Authors of selected stories will be contacted before March 31.

Radio spots cover Micronesians
Radio reports targeting the local Micronesian community have begun airing on Sundays on KNDI-AM.
The radio spots, produced by Micronesians United, air from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. weekly, in several Micronesian languages. Topics cover announcements and issues of interest to Micronesian residents.
