The Lunar New Year is celebrated with dancing lions from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lahaina Cannery Mall on Maui.

The family-friendly event starts the Year of the Ox, with traditional firecrackers and the feeding of the lion (dancers from Oahu-based Au's Shaolin Arts Society) to bring good fortune into the new year.

The event follows Saturday's regular 1 p.m. keiki hula performance, and all the activities are free.
