Cookie dough on salmonella hit list

Dough-to-Go of Santa Clara, Calif., is recalling several cookie dough products that contain peanut butter because they could be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall includes dough sold under the Auntie Ono brand in Hawaii. It also includes dough sold under the Dough-to-Go brand in California and the Jane Dough brand in Washington, Nevada and Arizona.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems.

No illnesses tied to the Dough-to-Go products have been reported. But nationally, salmonella linked to peanut butter products has killed six and sickened at least 486 people in more than 40 states.

State halts man's securities sales

State securities commissioner Tung Chan is issuing a cease-and-desist order against Glenn A. Gates for allegedly selling unregistered securities for a firm he leads.

Chan's order alleges that the Hawaii resident sold three unregistered stock certificates in June 2003 representing 800 shares in Gates Motor Corp. He received $8,000 from the mainland investors, the order says.

Gates was not registered with the state to sell stock, as required by law, nor were the certificates registered.

Chan's order requires Gates to stop selling the certificates and to pay an $8,000 penalty. He can request a hearing.

Gates Motor's state business filing lists Gates as chief executive. The filing says the firm's purpose is to research, develop and manufacture “;non-pollutant apparatus.”;

Airport viaduct undergoes repairs

The state Department of Transportation has started a 10-week emergency repair project on the H-1 Freeway airport viaduct in the westbound lanes.

Crews started the $3.5 million project Friday, replacing a portion of the bridge deck that has a large hole.

Three of five lanes will be closed weeknights from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The lanes will be closed for 1.5 miles, starting at the airport on- and offramp to the end of the viaduct.

During construction the speed limit could be lowered to 15 mph. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway or Moanalua Freeway. Motorists traveling through the area should use caution and allow for extra travel time.
