Vulcans outlast Argos in 4OTs
John Smith scored 21 points and Jay DeMaestri had 18 points and 14 rebounds as Hawaii-Hilo needed four overtimes to turn back Notrd Dame de Namur 102-93 in a Pacific West men's basketball game last night in Belmont, Calif.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Vulcans (9-7, 3-3 PWC) with Perry Baggett adding 18, Charlando Brown 18 and Jacob Brigss 14. Brandon Price came off the bench to score 10 points.
UHH outscored NDNU 20-11 in the last overtime, helped by 8-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line. Smith scored nine of the team's final points, including a 3-pointer that put the Vulcans ahead for good at 86-85.
The Argonauts (4-13, 0-7) got 25 points from Benny Murray and 21 points and 17 rebounds from Dan Bergeron in the loss.
» NDNU rallied past Hawaii-Hilo's women's team in the night's earlier contest, 80-71.
Sheila Azevedo scored 29 and Hina Kimitete 11 for the Vulcans (7-6, 2-4). Britni Rathke led the Argos (6-12, 3-4) with 24 points.
