Head for Sand Island this weekend for a pair of shows featuring a variety of local talent.

Friday's 18-and-over “;Rock Invasion”; will feature sets by Friends of Adam, Burnin Blue, Stratus Blue, GIGO and The Whaley Boys. On Saturday, “;Mix Night”; will be open to all ages, with performances by She Can Devour, Miss Buddah, Plan B Project, Disaster Kit, The Miltons and The Slobs 138. Music is scheduled to begin around 10 p.m. both nights.

While the majority of Honolulu residents wait until the weekend to go out and party, many local service industry workers are busy earning their rent money on Friday and Saturday nights.

Local promoters Flash Hansen and Russ Inouye have worked with most of Honolulu's bartenders and cocktail waitresses over the years, and the two decided 2009 would be a year of giving back to those who help them keep their parties well-lubricated.

“;Switch,”; a new weekly at the V Lounge, will feature Hansen and Inouye serving drinks behind the bar, with drink specials and guest bartenders each week. There's no cover charge all night, and a portion of each week's bar sales will be donated to charity.
