Competing stations share several spots in radio ratings

Several of Honolulu's top radio stations are fit to be tied - because they are, in the most recent Arbitron ratings released yesterday.

KSSK-FM 92.3 continues its double-digit share domination over other stations from 6 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Sundays among listeners 12 and older.
However, two stations are tied for No. 6 and three are tied at No. 8.
Advertisers don't make buys based on universal ratings. Nevertheless, being ranked in the top 10 12-plus, as it's called, provides bragging rights.
KSSK-AM 590 and KDNN-FM 98.5, ranked at Nos. 4 and 10 a year ago, lost those rights to KHUI-FM 99.5 and KUMU-FM 94.7 in the so-called fall “;book.”;
It doesn't mean the stations did not do well in their target demographics, though KSSK-AM 590 did fall out of the top 10-ranked stations among 25-to-54-year-olds, the ratings show.
Recent programming changes have the nationally syndicated John Tesh radio show on during the middays.
KDNN is tied at No. 6 among 18- to 34 year-olds with sister-station KSSK-FM.
“;The Bomb,”; KDDB-FM 102.7, topped the overall 18- to 34-year-old race this time around, rising more than three share points to 11.4.
Take just morning radio, and Michael W. Perry and Larry Price are still far and away the top dogs with nearly four times the audience as second-ranked KINE-FM 105.1, though Perry and Price are heard on both the AM and FM bands.
There were more ties among competing morning shows' 12-plus ratings.
Tied at third in the morning show race are K.C. and Taka on youth-formatted KPHW-FM 104.3 - and Steve Kelly and Sistah Sherry on KRTR-FM 96.3, oriented more toward grown-ups, particularly women.
Among 18- to 34-year-old listeners, K.C. and Taka topped mornings this time around.
Back among the 12-plus morning show rankings, there is a two-way tie for fifth place between KUMU and KCCN-FM 100.3.
No. 7 ranked KIKI-FM 93.9 rated a 4.4 and scoring a 3.9 share were two more stations, for yet another tie for No. 8: sports-formatted KKEA-AM 1420 and adult standards-playing KHUI-FM 99.5.
Rounding out the top 10 morning shows is the show hosted by Ed Kanoi on oldies-formatted KGMZ-FM 107.9.
