Wong stuns Lancers in OT

Good thing Kamehameha's Lindsey Wong listened to her father on those trips to the park.
“;My dad always tells me to take shots I don't normally shoot in the game,”; the Kamehameha guard said, “;just in case you have to.”;
That philosophy certainly paid off last night.
With the Warriors trailing by a point with 4.2 seconds left in overtime, Wong drained a running 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Kamehameha to a dramatic 48-46 win over Sacred Hearts at the Lancers' gym.
No. 8 Kamehameha improved to 2-3 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu by rallying from a 13-point third-quarter deficit, with Wong's shot capping a seesaw second half in which there were five ties and four lead changes.
The last lead change came after Sacred Hearts guard Raecha-Ann Kauahikaua was fouled on a drive to the basket and made one of two free throws to give the Lancers a 46-45 lead.
“;With 4 seconds left, there isn't much you can do,”; Kamehameha coach Clay Cockett said.
Wong then took the inbounds pass, sped over halfcourt and launched the game-winner from the right wing to register the last three of her 13 points.
“;When I go to the park I just fool around and shoot runners and I guess it helped today,”; Wong said.
The Warriors opened the ILH season with a 28-25 win over Sacred Hearts (1-4) on Dec. 30, but had dropped three straight since then, including an overtime defeat to 'Iolani and a one-point loss to Punahou last week.
“;It's huge, because we've been in a number of close games and this is the first one we've won,”; Cockett said.
Sacred Hearts built a double-digit lead behind the outside shooting of junior Rayna Munos, who hit five 3-pointers over Kamehameha's 1-2-2 zone on her way to a game-high 17 points.
When the Warriors switched to man in the second half to keep the ball away from Munos, the Sacred Hearts offense consisted primarily of Kauahikaua penetrating into the lane and getting to the free-throw line, where the Lancers finished 13-for-18.
All of Kauahikaua's nine points came from the line, including two with 3.1 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Kamehameha guard Pualei Furtado scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half and hit a 3-pointer as part of a 16-4 run after Sacred Hearts took a 29-16 lead less than a minute into the third quarter.
After Kamehameha scored first in overtime, Sacred Hearts forward Kuhina Luis scored the next four points to put the Lancers ahead 45-43. Noe Mikami tied it again with two free throws with 52.8 seconds left before Kauahikaua gave Sacred Hearts the lead.
But Kamehameha had one more answer left.
“;All we asked them to do was try to keep the ball in front of them,”; Sacred Hearts coach Alan Matsui said. “;They did what we asked them to do, (Wong) hit that shot, gotta give them credit.”;
