Registry helps revelers avoid fashion faux pas
An online dress registry aims to prevent embarrassments at some of the most high-profile events around the nation's capital next week.
Site founder Andrew Jones said the idea was born 10 years ago when he overheard his wife discussing with a friend the lengths she went to in order to avoid wearing the same dress as another guest at formal events.
Laura Bush could have used the service in 2006, when she was one of four women in a red Oscar de la Renta gown at a White House reception.
The site, www.dressregistry.com, launched last month and allows visitors to “;register”; their dress by listing the designer, color, length and neckline, and uploading a photograph, thus preventing becoming fodder for US magazine's “;Who Wore It Better”; feature.
While also serving the voyeuristic tendencies of those left at home, it's also a service definitely needed for every event in town.
Muse debut
Be the first to check out Muse, Smashbox's fashion-forward makeup collection this weekend at Sephora Ala Moana and Pearlridge.
The bold new collection inspires you to become both artist and muse with lip paints that shine and an artist's palette of eye shadows.
Hank Hoffman, Smashbox's national artist, will be there to answer questions and offer demonstrations of runway-ready looks.
Events take place noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday at the Ala Moana Sephora (944-9797) and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pearlridge location (487-0660).
McGuire event
Pacific Home is having a reception to welcome McGuire to its group of fine furnishings.
Hosted by McGuire President Jason Philips and Pacific Home, the event begins at 5 p.m. at the 420 Ward Ave. showroom with complimentary wine and light pupu.
A Barbara Barry chaise lounge chair that retails for $5,000 will be given away as a door prize.
