After 25 years of coaching, Dean Yonamine is stepping away.

The longtime 'Iolani coach resigned yesterday, ending one of the state's longest stints in baseball. Yonamine spent 13 of his 25 years on the bench as head coach for the Raiders. They went to state tournaments in 1997, '98, '99 and 2000. The Raiders won the state crown in '97 and '98, as well as an ILH title in '97.

Yonamine was a catcher and batterymate of future Major League hurler Mike Fetters in '82 and '83, when 'Iolani won ILH championships and a state title in '83.

He will continue to teach sixth-grade social studies at 'Iolani.

The Raiders were 8-6 in ILH regular-season play last year and went 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament. 'Iolani was 15-16 overall.
